Southern Gospel Music
The South is rich in history not only of Civil War but also of Southern Gospel Music. Such greats like The Happy Goodman's, The Speer Family, The Hinson's, The Rex Nelon Singers and others have greatly been an influence to all that still sing today.
Our local station WFLI AM 1070 located at the foot of Lookout Mountain still today plays some of the great oldies as well as the current groups that have made the chart. They also play groups that are just getting their foot in the door sort of speak. Our friend Carl Human is a DJ at this local station, he and Rickey our lead singer went to school together. If you have a chance and are passing through the Chattanooga, TN area then please tune your dial to WFLI. I know that you will enjoy the music that they are playing.
The songs of Zion have been sung for years not only in our area churches as we sang in the choir but also as we just sit on our front porches or ride down the road in our cars. The late greats such as Rusty Goodman, Dottie Rambo and Dad Speer wrote some of the most beautiful songs that were ever pinned to paper. Bill and Gloria Gaither and others today are still writing songs that uplift the Lord in song as well as myself the Lord has given me words to over 75 songs some of which we do in our singing group. My favorites of the ones that we sing are From The Manger To The Cross, He's Walking With Me, Mercy and Gonna Keep Walking With Jesus.
I pray that on your journey to the promised land that you are touched by the words of the songs that you hear and that the words enter into your heart. I hope that they uplift, encourage and take root in your heart. Stop and take time to listen for the voice of God and see the beauty that he has created.
